Auburn University basketball player Frank Tolbert was arrested Saturday on underage drinking charges.

Tolbert, 19, was arrested in his hometown of River Falls early Saturday morning, along with four others. Tolbert was charged with consumption of alcohol as a minor.

According to an arrest report filed with the Covington County Jail, Tolbert was arrested around 1:30 a.m. at the Nite Spot, a local bar. Alabama Beverage Control Board officers, acting on an anonymous tip, raided the bar and arrested Tolbert and the four others.

After spending the night at the jail, Tolbert was released on a $1,000 bond.

Tolbert will be a junior this season on the AU basketball team.

Last year, he played in all 28 games, starting 19, and averaged 9.1 points per game.

The 6-foot-3 swingman is the Tigers’ No. 2 returning scorer.

It’s not yet clear what the disciplinary consequences will be for Tolbert following this arrest.

AU does not have any policy mandating specific punishment for players who are arrested.

An athletic department spokesperson declined to comment on the issue. Head coach Jeff Lebo could not be reached for comment.
